Aaron Swartz, a programmer and Internet activist who co-founded a
company that would eventually grow into Reddit, committed suicide Friday
in New York City, according to The Tech and Boing Boing. Swartz's attorney confirmed the news to The Tech early Saturday morning.
"The
tragic and heartbreaking information you received is, regrettably,
true," confirmed Swartz' attorney, Elliot R. Peters of Kecker and Van
Nest, in an email to The Tech.

An article in PC magazine shows that the corporate media is starting to ask the same question that the alternative media has been asking. Are the recent string of hacker attacks a false flag operations meant to drum up support to push through Internet censorship laws that the public would otherwise protest?
Are the recent string of hacker attacks a government sponsored operation meant to rouse public support for internet censorship bills in Congress that public would normally protest against?
Just think about some of the bills congress is trying to push through in the name of anti-piracy and cyber security.
The ProtectIP act would allow the government, even on behalf of requests of corporations to seize websites without the due process of law, entirely sidestepping the constitution and even allow complete censorship of search engines and the media.
I wonder how they will quash certain truths, like the fact that Obama has us engaged in an ILLEGAL war with Libya. And what makes them think people will listen to this new white house shill blogger anyway?
Two immediate assumptions come to mind, they will focus on the tea party and namely "birthers". What what form will their defense come in? Blog posts directed at specific writings rumors or allegations? Comments posted to the sites themselves? Removal of these posts by the government because they deem them untrue? How many times does the government have to lie to us before people will realize, they cannot be trusted? :)
Lee’s first Tweet as an official mouthpiece for White House propaganda and the Obama administration’s move to launch an “aggressive defense of the president and his policies” gives us some indication of what we can expect – the post includes a picture of the Terminator robot.
“If you’re going to post something online about Obama that isn’t true, Lee is going to be the one to handle you,” reports Chris O’Shea, noting that the move is about “squashing any negative stories” that could derail Obama’s re-election bid.
There are a few ways of looking at this. You could be upset, and kick and scream and say - see! I told you they want to silence people who are telling the truth. The other is to say, see, it's working! People are waking up! The powers that be are scared! Let's embrace the positive side of this message. :)

Despite couching his idea in fluffy, friendly, democratic rhetoric, Clinton is advocating the creation of a Communist Chinese-style state run media outlet
Mr Bill “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” Clinton, a man who knowingly lied to the nation on live television at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, has called for the creation of an Internet ‘ministry of truth’ style organization that would be run by the federal government or the UN to address “misinformation and rumors floating on the Internet.”
Couching the idea in the kind of doublespeak rhetoric that would make George Orwell roll in his grave, Clinton said that the agency would have to be “independent” and “transparent,” but that it would be created and run by the federal government – a complete oxymoron.
The former president said that the organization “Would have to be an independent federal agency that no president could countermand or anything else because people wouldn’t think you were just censoring the news and giving a different falsehood out.”
